People management is one of the areas where I personally believe that technical people are not on the top of their game. In this aspect I consider myself as technology manager more than a people manager. Today I will talk about how I have managed my team of about 20 highly skilled peers (I consider my team as my peers instead of my subordinates) in my previous role as the “Head – Servers and Storage”.

In today’s world of Cloud Computing where all the "tin" and "wire" is managed by the cloud providers, the businesses need to focus on the cost and revenues more than anything else. However, there are still some scenarios where one would need to go ahead and implement the "tin" and "wire" setup. Today, I will walk you through the process which I followed to create a 2 node Windows Server 2004 Cluster on my laptop using VirtualBox. This is a great way to learn the tips and tricks of the game without actually having to go through a server setup inside a data center.

This week I spent some time on exploring Azure ServerLess Computing. As part of the Pi-Lights project which I had detailed in my last post, I tried for a “ServerLess” approach to demonstrate the use of Cloud at creating a simple application which can benefit from the Cloud agility to scale on demand and handle millions of requests without worrying about any high availability, security, hardware provisioning and maintenance of any server resources. Seems like a dream but it is true.

Reconciliation – The process of matching two or more data sets and identifying the outliers / differences. A simple process to define and understand but equally difficult and complex to implement especially in a financial institution.

"Internet of Things" or "IoT" is we refer to it, is the current trend in the technology world. Mini computers connected to the network and equipped with sensors of all possible types. You name it and there is a sensor for in today's world of IoT. With all the digitization going around, the advancements in the technology, IoT is the front and center of it. Be it mobile payments, home automation, autonomous cars or robots every in every field, IoT is the major driving force today and its impact will grow over time.

Continuing on the previous post about the potential use cases of Cloud and the argument that does Cloud provide savings, there were a couple of questions raised. Security is one of the key aspects I did not cover at all in my previous post. So, this week let me go over that specific area of Security and what the approach should be when looking at Cloud and its security.
